Dr. Steve Graham has been with Delta College since 1990.
He began on campus as an academic advisor.
Part time teaching began in 1990 and then full time teaching in 2008, where Graham was heavily involved in coaching and teaching the speech and debate team.
He received his associates, bachelors and masters at California State University, Stanislaus.
He is currently Dean of the Humanities, Social Science, Education and Kinesiology, which includes the athletic division.
After becoming division dean this past fall semester he is no longer teaching.
“I really wanted to give the new job 100 percent,” he said.
Graham is very involved in Delta athletics.
He played hoops in college and has been a fan of Delta sports for many years.
“I love working with the coaches, players, and staff. They are all committed to a culture of excellence and I’m just trying to be a part of all of it,” he said.
Something you may not have known about Graham is that he also coached high school basketball at Ripon High for many years.
There he had the privilege of coaching his two children, Justin and Jessica.
Graham says he just stopped coaching high school basketball because of his dedication to his new job here at Delta.
He now travels all over the world watching his two children play.
He has journeyed from Idaho, where his daughter plays ball, all the way to Slovakia, where his son Justin plays professionally.
His children started taking classes at Delta when they were in high school and both went on to play Division I basketball.
The proud dad and coach says both of his children will be graduating with masters degrees in the spring.
Delta, he said, has been good to him in more than the obvious ways.
After all, it’s where he met his wife.
“I met my wife my first day working at Delta in 1990. She worked as an evaluator in the Admissions Office. She hated me because I got the job she applied for. She was and still is the most beautiful person I have ever seen… inside and out,” he said.
