Delta Drama is welcoming the festive season with the holiday classic “A Christmas Carol.”
The department will offer two morning matinees to students and faculty to come and watch the performance “A Christmas Carol” on Thursday, Dec. 1 and Friday, Dec. 2.
Matinee is defined as “a musical or dramatic performance or social or public event held in the daytime and specially the afternoon,” according to the Merriam Webster.
The matinees will be available for schools in the area as well as to Delta students and faculty for free.
The performances will be at 10 a.m.
“We are excited about the work happening and we wanted to share it with the community because we are part of the community,” said Associate Professor and Director Ashlee Temple.
If students or faculty are interested in watching the performance but because of classes or work during the morning aren’t able to attend there is also the option of watching the performance in the afternoon or evening.
The Drama Department of San Joaquin Delta College has done great effort to invited and shared with the community about theater on campus.
There will be five performances available for the general public for $9 for adults and $4 for students and seniors. This includes two matinees for the general public at 2 p.m. December 3-4 and three evening performance December 1-3 at 7 p.m.
The performance is based on the holiday classic of Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol” it is the tale of a man named Ebenezer Scrooge and his transformational path.
According to deltadrama.com it is the tale of, “Ebenezer Scrooge and the four spirits who visit him one cold and snowy Christmas Eve, thereby changing him and those around him forevermore.” The tale is about Scrooge’s transformational journey “from one of misery and loneliness to one of celebration and joy.
The campus is encouraged to come and watch this theatrical production at the Delta theater since it is completely directed and cast by delta college students, faculty and staff.
“What is different about ours is that it is completely a Delta product,” said Temple.
“I think it’s important for the students in high school to see someone that has graduated their high school performing up on stage that way they can see the potential for themselves” said Temple.
