The Stockton Delta Dance Company (SDDC) is the official dance club on campus.
The club was established in 2008. The types of dances the club offers are jazz, modern dance and ballet.
Current president of SDDC Jessica Gamez has been a member of the club for more than two years.
The Delta alumni continues to take dance classes provided on campus.
Gamez’s main role is based around stage production, as well as working alongside the director/instructor of SDDC.
“We are trying to get hip hop and Zumba dance styles, but we are in need of another dance instructor,” Gamez said.
SDCC will be holding a dance workshop on campus in early November.
Eight styles of dance, ballet, contemporary salsa, jazz, hip hop, African fusion, Polynesian, belly dancing and Zumba can all be sampled during the one-day event.
Students 12 years and up pay $25, and non-students pay $35 at the door. However, pre-registrations are being held from now until Nov. 5 in Budd 402 for the workshop.
“The dance workshop is a great way to come view the classes that SDDC currently does not offer during the semester,” Gamez said.
The campus can expect to see more of SDDC during the group’s fall production December 2-3 in Budd 402, as well as the spring production in April inside the Atherton Auditorium.
Gamez recommends joining the dance club to students interested in costume making, cosmetics, fashion, drama, photography or simply dancing.
Previous dance experience and partaking in performances are not mandatory, she said.
