It has been 19 years since Sony Pictures Studios released “Spider-Man” featuring Tobey Maguire as the beloved superhero.
Since then, we have had a total of seven live-action Spider-Man movies, as well as the animated movie “Into The Spider Verse.”
The excitement continues this month as we all await the release, into theaters, of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” where we see the newest version of the iconic character, Tom Holland, step back into his role.
Holland comes back to the role previously occupied by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
Regardless, who plays the human spider, we continue to love the Spider Man franchise and everything to do with it.
Spidey lovers all over the world have been anticipating this movie ever since they were left with a cliffhanger in the 2019 movie “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” when Mysterio revealed to the world Spider-Man’s true identity.
With the release of the most recent trailer, it was confirmed that “No Way Home” deals with the multiverse, similar to what we saw in “Into The Spider Verse.” Multiverse deals with the idea that there are multiple and alternative universe, each slightly different than the other. This would support the idea of multiple different versions of Spider-Man.
This is huge news.
The trailer revealed the return of classic villains from previous Spider-Man movies such as Green Goblin and Sandman. Fans can only hope and rightfully assume that we will get to see our previous beloved actors of Spider Man.
The rumors and wait have built up so much excitement and it can be proven as the trailer brought in about 50 million views on YouTube within the first two weeks. Ticket sales have been overloaded the same day tickets were put out.
The movie doesn’t even come out until Dec. 17.
With this particular movie, it’s a bit more than just seeing a young man overcome his battle between being a normal person in society and being a superhuman. This is bigger than seeing the good guy beat the bad guys, or seeing the protagonist win the girl.
This movie for many fans is an opportunity for closure.
As dramatic as it may sound, fans can’t help but be attached to the character of Spider Man. He’s a young man who is already dealing with his own regular troubles but despite this is given an opportunity to make a change and be something bigger than himself. The first Spider Man released really helped portray this story for us. However, Spider Man doesn’t quite seem to have an identity almost as each time we get used to an actor, they’ve been switched out.
Fans still haven’t let go of Maguire’s Spider Man, who helped bring the character back into prominence in 2002.
Holland is now phasing out as his contract with Marvel-Sony is ending.
With the Spider Man before Holland, we weren’t given proper closure. They just disappeared from the franchise.
We were all young – or not even yet born – for the first Spider Man movie; to experience that change of face was very odd.
With the acknowledgement of the multiverse, fans can better accept the multiple different faces behind the mask. However, if rumors are true and fans get to bare witness all three Spider Man in one movie, then we might get to see a proper send off of the faces we grew up rooting for. The proper spidey send off we deserve.
The movie looks to be full of action and drama; one can only hope Spider Man gets some familiar help when challenging all the returning villains. With Marvel and Sony not revealing or speaking on the rumors, this could either be the biggest hit ever or the biggest upset. It’s very clear what the fans. It’s not as clear yet if we’ll receive it. Regardless, “Spider-Man: No Way” Home looks to be the most anticipated movie of the year.
