On Nov. 17 and 18, the dance production “Still Here” was held at the A. Mueller Theater.

Directed by Philip Agyapong, the production featured 12 different performances, from students and professors Agyepong and Valerie Gnassounou.

“This semester, our choreographers and dancers have worked tirelessly to tell stories of why they are “Still Here” amidst of life’s challenges,” reads the director’s note for the production.

The dances range from contemporary dances to traditional Kenyan and Japanese dance.

The student performances were choreographed by the students themselves, said Agyapong in a phone interview.

“We actually first discussed what we wanted to choreograph our dances to, because we wanted a student connection,” Agyapong said.

The production also featured a video asking the students themselves what inspired them to dance and why they were ‘Still Here.’

“We asked the students what out of everything that is happening in the world, what is the motivating factor in being here,” said Agyapong. “Thinking about that, they had to represent that with movements and choreography… however they want to tell their story.”
