On Sept. 28, Delta College Football had a heartbreaking 21-49 loss to the Santa Rosa Bear Cubs.
Delta College is now on a four-game loss streak in a rocky start to the season.
“They’re working hard,” said Head Coach Gary Barlow. “We haven’t been able to field 11 guys at the same time over and over.”
Santa Rosa won the coin toss choosing to give Delta the ball on kickoff where delta drove 75 yards, including 15 from a Santa Rosa pass interference on Link Rhodes. The drive ended with a 29 yard touchdown pass from Ubedei Mcgautha to Laeli Samuelu, which put Delta up 7-0.
Santa Rosa then drove downfield to miss a field goal turning over the ball to Delta on their own 13 yard line. A couple quick plays moved Delta to the 48 where Mcgautha made a 52 yard pass to Link Rhodes.
Rhodes ended the game with 129 all purpose yards and a touchdown having a completion on eight of his 11 targets.
“They couldn’t stop me,” said Rhodes after the game.
The Delta Mustangs only scored one more time for the rest of the game on a three-yard touchdown run from Mcgautha. Mcgautha finished the game 17 for 20 with 198 passing yards and 5 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Running back Joseph Cowan contributed for 113 all purpose yards, 74 of which came on five kickoff return attempts.
“We have to play the next game,” said Barlow.
The Delta Mustangs are looking towards next week where the team plays a home game versus Reedley College at McNair High School on Oct. 5.
