On Feb.13, Delta College will host a Pulitzer on the Road event bringing together award-winning journalists who craft the future of reporting.
The event features Pulitzer winners Caitlin Dickerson and Anna Wolfe and Pulitzer finalist Astrid Galvan.
This event will explore the impact of the writer’s work and the challenges they face in today’s rapidly changing media landscape, including the role of modern journalism focusing on reporting along immigration, social justice, and the responsibility of journalists to hold power accountable.
Stockton’s Pulitzer on the Road stop is sponsored by Delta College, Fierce Mustang Media, and Stocktonia.
Adviser to The Collegian student newspaper Tara Cuslidge-Staiano said the event offers a good opportunity for journalism, multimedia and digital media students to engage with seasoned professionals.
“These journalists are covering issues that are both nationally and locally relevant,” Cuslidge- Staiano said. “By hearing their insights, students can gain a broader perspective on how global stories tie into local issues. It’s a chance to understand the significance of community-based, action-oriented journalism.”
The panel will explore different challenges that reporters face today in a polarizing media environment.
The panelists and their areas of expertise are:
- 2023 Explanatory Reporting Pulitzer winner Dickerson, who is known for her work investigating U.S. immigration policies for The Atlantic.
- 2023 Local Reporting Pulitzer winner Wolfe, an investigative reporter for Mississippi Today.
- 2019 National Reporting Pulitzer team finalist Galvan who has reported heavily on social justice and Latine issues.
Executive Director of The Pulitzer Prizes Marjorie Miller will moderate the event.
The panelists will discuss the importance of balancing speed and accuracy in an age of misinformation and how journalists can navigate the ethical dilemmas they face while reporting on sensitive issues.
“It is important for fellow journalists like us to go to events like the Pulitzer to learn how to approach different communities and stories as well as learn to stand your ground and keep your sources tight,” said Andrea Rivea, Co-Editor-in-Chief for Collegian in the Spring 2025 semester.
Rivera and Co-Editor-in-Chief Jelissa King will moderate an invitation-only student event during the day where the speakers will discuss their work.
The reception will take place from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. followed by the discussion event. From 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. at the Tillie Lewis Theatre at Delta College. To RSVP for the event, fill out the form here.
