The summer semester begins on May 27 with many options available for classes, but some notable name changes for high transfer classes.
There are 4, 8, and 12-week sessions available for different class options starting at different times and you can find those classes here https://deltacollege.collegescheduler.com/terms/Summer%202025/options
Students can build schedules by using the class search tool. Some courses you may know will have different names, and according to Delta College, the reason for the change is that it will be easier to transfer to other schools.
These courses mark Delta’s rollout of alignment to AB 1111, with more courses changing in upcoming semesters. Called the “Common Course Numbering” project (CCN), the effort is meant to “assign the same course number to comparable courses across all California community colleges to ‘streamline transfer from two- to four-year postsecondary educational institutions and reduce excess credit accumulation,’” according to the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office
Delta College has noted the course name changes both on the website and in social media posts. The new names and numbers align with California Assembly Bill 1111 from 2021. The bill aimed to reduce confusion for transferring students by Fall 2027.
Agriculture major Lauren Freeman said she wasn’t informed about the course changes and that the school needs to be better than a single Instagram post.
“I didn’t know about those changes to the courses because I don’t use Instagram but I feel the school should’ve just emailed us. We all have school emails and I’m always getting info Titled emails,” Freeman said. “Why couldn’t they send it out that way? It’s inconvenient for students who don’t use social media but hopefully it helps because I’m looking to transfer to UC Davis.”
Students who have to fulfill requirements use the Summer semester to either get ahead or graduate right on time. The list of courses is available now, but general registration begins on March 31.
Former student Jennifer Morales who studies economics at California State University, Fullerton, says the change was long overdue.
“They should have made this change a long time ago. It was so hard for me when I first transferred to Fullerton because of all the different class names and I didn’t know what I needed so in my first semester I took a lot of unnecessary courses when I didn’t need to.”
Morales also says that she is confident this will help students because classes at UC and CSU use four-digit numbers when talking about courses.
