On April 3, the Delta College Pride Coalition (DCPC) and Delta College Pride Center hosted a film screening in honour of Transgender Day of Visibility.
Three films were featured at the event: “Daniel Really Suits You,” “Man Enough,” a short film by Delta DMEDIA student Veronica Argumedo and the feature film “Framing Agnes.”
“Any time you can promote visibility for folks that often don’t have that visibility, it’s really, really important any time we can amplify voices and, given the current political climate, having a moment of joy for the transgender community seemed really, really important,” said Delta photography professor and president of the DCPC Kirstyn Russell.
The event was attended by students, professors and some members of Delta College’s administration, including President Superintendent Dr. Lisa Aguilera Lawrenson, Assistant Superintendent and Vice President of Student Services Dr. Lonita Cordova and Jennifer Burchet, Interim Vice President of Human Resources and Risk Management.
“We got an email this morning that Dr. Lawrenson was coming, and I know she’s incredibly busy, so for her to prioritize this event today really, really meant a lot,” said Russell.
It was also announced that the initiative to have an all gender restroom on the first floor of every building on campus is scheduled to be finished in September.
