With the semester coming to an end, baseball, softball, women’s wrestling, track and field, golf, swimming and volleyball will all end their regular seasons.
For track, our men’s and women’s teams have performed exceptionally. First-year students Jake Todden and Amyah Moore, who won Mustang of the month in March, have had elite seasons: Todden in throws, and Moore in high jump and hurdles.
“The men’s and women’s side is looking dominant and strong going into Big 8 conference championships and NorCal’s. Earning Mustang of the Month was cool. Delta has helped me make connections with amazing people to help better my knowledge,” Trodden said.
April 22 to the 24 was the Big 8 Conference Championship Finals at Diablo Valley College.
Kaiden Merryman and Link Rhodes, who both also play football, were placed in the top five in the conference for the 100 Meter: Merryman at No. 2 and Rhodes at No. 5.
Ashonti Brown placed third for both the 100-meter and 200-meter. She also won first place in the 100-meter hurdles.
Moore speaks more on her journey and appreciates Delta for the help
“Considering it’s my first year of track ever placing in state is great because I wasn’t sure how my first season would go but I’m proud of my progress,” she sai.. “Delta has been helpful in my development because there is support from coaches through adversity.”
At Diablo Valley, Todden took home gold with a 16.23-meter shot put and Moore took SIlver in the triple jump.
In total, the Mustangs won 4 gold medals and 10 silver medals at the tournament.
Womens Volleyball went 15-9 and played their home games at University of Pacific.
Baseball finished 20-20 under first-year coach Bob Kittle, which was fifth in the Big 8 Conference. They will be playing at Delta College next season with the baseball field expected to be completed at the end of May.
Recently on April 27 our baseball team held a clinic for Pacific Little League at Victory Park where athletes and coaches helpd little leaguers with different drills, providing a lunch for the kids.
The team began regionals Friday May 2, beating Chabot College in two (7-3, 5-4, 14-9) games during the best-of-three competition. The team moves on to play Folsom Lake on May 8.
With the Fall season approaching, Football hopes they can play at home this year but Delta hasn’t announced anything officially.
