On Aug. 7, Delta College held its first-ever “State of the District” event in Upper Danner Hall.
The invite-only event served as a way to highlight current programs on campus, improvements made by the current campus administration, and plans for the first part of Measure K funding.
“State of the District is an opportunity to communicate more directly with elected officials, local school district representatives, and our workforce development partners,” said Alex Breitler, director of Marketing and Communications for Delta. “This event is focused on community partners.”
Due to the limited capacity of Upper Danner Hall and the focus on community organizers, the event was made invite-only. Collegian was not part of initial invites for the event, but was granted access after inquiring about media coverage.
The event was also held while faculty were off-contract for the summer break.
“We have other opportunities to share information and updates with faculty and other employee groups, such as the two-day Fall Convocation which will be held Aug. 13 and Aug. 14,” said Breitler.
The event began with breakfast, provided by the Office of the President, followed by presentations by various people including Superintendent/President Lisa Aguilera Lawrenson.
Lawrenson focused on changes that have been made in her tenure as president including improvements to the enrollment process.
“Over the course of my tenure as president, we’ve taken the time it takes to enroll from a week down to just 15 minutes,” said Lawrenson.
Lawrenson also spoke about several new courses that will be coming to Delta in Fall 2026 including phlebotomy courses and emergency services training that will be hosted at a new facility in Lodi.
After Lawrenson spoke, Dr. Heather Malloy, dean of Adult Education, Academic Innovation and Continuing Education, gave a presentation on the successes of the DARTE program which allows adult students to take college transfer courses while getting their high school diploma.
The presentation included videos of students who have participated in the DARTE program and found success.
“It’s such an incredible feeling of accomplishment,” said DARTE intern and Delta student Alonda Schock.
