On Friday, Jan. 23, An email was sent to faculty informing them that heating was unavailable in most of the buildings on campus following the discovery of a leak in the HVAC system. The leak comes a little more than two weeks after campus was closed due to heating issues before the start of the Spring 2026 semester.

“Our facilities team had identified a leak in Stockton campus’s hydronic lines. As a result, heating is currently unavailable in the majority of our buildings,” Alex Breitler, director of Marketing and Communications for San Joaquin Delta College, wrote in the email.

Despite the lack of heating, campus had remained open for a financial aid workshop on Jan. 24 and weekend classes are being handled on a case-by-case basis.

“For those few classes that are in session, faculty are communicating directly with students about how to handle those classes,” wrote Breitler.

Previous heating issues led to a 3-day campus closure that started on Jan. 6 while repairs were carried out. Those repairs were formally approved by the Board of Trustees at its Jan. 20 meeting.

As of 3 p.m. on Jan. 24, it is unclear whether the current outage is related to the problems that led to the earlier closure, and there is not yet a timeline for heat to be restored to campus.
