New and returning students looking at their class schedules and running to their classes on Delta’s campus are 
seeing the elevators either not in use or under construction.

The elevators across campus are down while being repaired and brought up to code.

This is causing students issues with getting to and from their classes. Particularly for disabled students, who were told to go to the Disability Support Programs and Services office at the beginning of the semester.

“I couldn’t get to class on the first day. And I had to report to the DSPS office andthey said they couldn’t do nothing until it was fixed, to just contact my instructor. But by the time I contacted her she had dropped me from the class,” said student Christy Long.

Delta College has tried it’s best to accommodate students needs when available. 
“Many of you have experienced classroom changes that have been required because of our commitment to offer accessto classrooms for students and staff who face physical disabilities,” 
said Dr. Matt Wetstein, Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Instructions & Planning. 

One student, Denise Thoeung, had her class moved from the third floor to the first floor of the Shima building.
“So luckily Im in the class still and they changed the classroom. But were not sure how long for,” she said. 

According to Wetstein initial elevator repairs should be finished in Danner Hall, Shima and Budd buildings 
by September or possibly early October.

“Anticipating no unforeseen delays, by that time the elevators should have new electronics installed 
and cab renovations completed,” he said.
