Stockton’s New Generation

The Definition of generation is all of the people born and living at about the same time, regarded collectively.

That Collectively is Stockton’s New Generation of people trying to make our community better by bringing the community together. Stockton filed for bankruptcy in 2012 that had some bleak years for the city. Until now with some fresh young faces who want to lead the city back to the glory days and help the next generation to take Stockton to the future.

Three members of the new generation are Jasmine Leek the founder of Third City Coalition, Sara Washington a freelance documentary film-maker who is part of Third City Coalition and Anna Malaika Nti-Asare who is a local educator and founder of Stockton Young Adult Success Conference.

Here’s Stockton’s New Generation.

Jasmine Leek of Third City Coalition

Profile #1: Jasmine Leek:

Jasmine Leek is a native of Stockton who came back home to make an impact on the city she grew up in. Leek is the founder of Third City Coalition; Third City Coalition is a community organization giving back to the community.

Jasmine is also involved in a lot of things in Stockton, Such as Third City Coalition, Restore the delta, a board of directors at community medical centers.

“Young People are full of hope” Leek said when asked about this infusion of young people trying to make Stockton a better place She also said, “it’s a fun thing to engage your free time in and some people have dedicated their lives to it”  

Jasmine Leek passion for Stockton is so infectious to everyone she is around and Stockton is in good hands with her as one of the  face’s of Stockton’s New Generation.

Leek recently started Jane’s Walk in Stockton, Jane’s Walk is named after  legendary community activist  Jane Jacobs. The First Jane’s Walk was held in Stockton on May 6th, 2017 and it was a tour around Downtown Stockton highlighting it.

Profile #2: Sara Washington

Sara Washington is a documentarian and part of Third City Collation, Sara is a native of Stockton also. Washington’s views of Third City are that it is a resource center and think tank.

Washington is another young person who wants to improve Stockton and wants to make the city thrive again like it did during the golden years of the community.

Washington Said about moving back to Stockton as a person who grew up here in the port city and what her generation can do here in Stockton  “We could totally make the town what we wanted it to be”

Anna Malaika Nti-Asare- Stockton Educator 

Profile # 3: Anna Malaika Nti-Asare

Anna Malaika Nti-Asare is not a native of Stockton but she calls it home now.

Nti-Asare is a teacher at Langston Hughes Academy here in Stockton. Anna is a graduate of   Stanford University and the University of Cambridge. She is also the future first lady of Stockton but she wants to make her own impact on Stockton.

Stockton is her adopted hometown now and she loves it.

Anna wants to improve Stockton by education and the way she is doing that is called the Stockton Youth Adult Success Conference. The SYASC is a program with workshops to address at risk 8th graders. SYASC is partnered with the plus program.

Stockton’s Next Generation is in good hands with these three community members to help make Stockton move into the the future.
