Delta students, athletes revel in new weight room
The Delta College weight room was renovated thanks to a $200,000 bond. “That weight room is a big, big plus for our program,” said Athletic Direc- tor Daryl Arroyo. “To our academic program, to preparing our athletes to perform better. And it will have a huge
impact on recruiting.”
The new room brings in new weights with the Mustangs logo em- bedded and a brand new floor.
“It’s great. It’s like a high level divi- sion one quality weight room,” said Women’s Head Basketball Coach Gina Johnson. “It’s very small, but high qual- ity equipment, so our girls love it.”
The floor also has green mats that re- semble grass the students are appreciating. “It’s a whole lot cleaner, the mats
are better, and I use the grass to do sit- ups,” said fourth-year student Fran- cesco Tomayo.
Even though there is still some branding around the walls that needs to be done, athletes and students will appreciate the commitment to Delta College’s weight training program.
“Sports brings people in the com- munity together,” said Assistant Head Football Coach Doug Murray.
