On Sept. 27, Stockton Scholars hosted the Chrysalis Program Annual Conference at Delta’s Danner Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The event brought in young women and girls of color who were middle school, high school and college students.

The event was organized by Erika Hermosillo, who was very excited to be able to encourage diversity through education.

“I think programs like this are really important and really exciting I love getting to be able to contribute my talents, gifts and strengths to pour into young people and young women of color because so many people throughout my life have poured into me, and I really believe we can pay it forward,” Hermosillo said.

Hermosillo gave a presentation talking about her life and who she is as a person and explained the event’s purpose to those present at the event.

“The Stockton Scholars Chrysalis Program was created to support young women of color in accessing and being successful in higher education. We can co-create a community where we can support each other, affirm each other and help each other get closer to our dreams,” said Hermosillo.

Later on, Delta’s Vice President of Student Services Dr. Lonita Cordova gave a presentation at the event discussioning some topics such as her life and boundaries.

The morning sessions consisted of healthy relationships, boundaries, self-love, how to love yourself and support your community while the afternoon sessions were art spaces, dance, art and poetry.

After the event, a lot of the people were very happy and excited that they got the opportunity to witness this event.

“I like that it was a lot of new people to meet and I really just felt empowered today, it was fun,” said high school student Rasida Donyen.
