Delta College campus is once again closed – this time resulting in classes to be shifted online – following a heating failure across campus, this marks the third time since the start of the year that the campus has been left without heat.

“As of Wednesday afternoon, heat is unavailable in the majority of campus buildings. With cold temperatures in the forecast, the Stockton campus will close at 5 p.m. today and remain closed all day Thursday, Feb. 19.” said an email sent to students on Feb. 18.

This latest break follows a string of three others that occurred on Jan. 6, Jan. 23 and Feb. 3, this is only the second break to result in a closure.

The Jan. 6 HVAC issues resulted in a three-day campus closure.

The source of the heating issues in this instance appears to be from a leak that was discovered at 11 a.m on Feb. 18, according to director of facility planning for Delta College Stacy Pinola.

“We made the repair on the third, this leak is right above that repair,” said Pinola, clarifying the location of the underground leak.

A repair company will be on campus on Feb. 19 to assess the damage, it is unclear whether campus will be open on Feb. 20.

A Mustang Alert was sent out at 4:35 p.m. directing faculty to “please move classes online if possible and communicate directly with your students regarding any adjustments.” In the same alert, students were directed to not come to campus on Thursday, Feb. 19 and check email “for updates from professors.”
